澳洲成人饮食习惯的调查 Assignment指导需求

Australian Assignment
Diabetes in Australia
澳洲留学生作业guideline

Investigating diabetes among Australian adults

Where is the info on the assignment?
The guide to your assignment is in your unit guide (downloadable from the portal) on pages 11 & 12.

Where is the Marking Guide for the assignment?
This is located in the portal.  Please attach a copy of this to your assignment before submission.

What is included in the word count?
Everything except graphs, tables, in-text references (citations) and your reference list are included in the word count.  Direct quotes, headings and sub-headings; ARE all included in the word count.

Do we have 10% lee-way on the word count?
As with all assessment pieces in this unit we do provide you with the ‘10% lee-way’ on your word count. Anything beyond this will not be marked.

What format should I use for the assignment?
This is a report and so should include an introduction and conclusion. It would be good to utilise headings and sub-headings where appropriate. Please ensure you print your work out in 12pt font and one and a half line spacing.

Your reference list needs to be included at the back of your assignment on a separate page with all your references in alphabetical order (do not separate out by ‘type of reference’). See the referencing chapter in your Study Guide and Reader for further information.

Can I use subheadings?
Subheadings are a great way to concisely lay out your assignment. You can come up with your own sub-headings, but use the unit guide and criteria sheet to guide this process.

Can I use graphs and tables from other reports/documents?
It would be a good idea to include graphs and tables in your assignment to illustrate rates of diabetes among Australian adults. You can copy and paste graphs and tables directly from another document/report/journal article into your assignment or you can create your own from a variety of sources. Make sure you reference where this information comes from!

Make sure your graphs and tables are clear to the reader, both in terms of image clarity, font size, label and title of graph/table (put your own numbers ie. Table 1, then Table 2 and so on), and references.

How do I reference?
Using the Harvard Referencing style - see the referencing chapter in your Study Guide and Reader.

Are newspaper articles a credible reference?
Not really as the media can often hype the information up, provide incorrect information or information that is not valuable or credible. You should not be referencing them for this assignment. The only time they are useful is when they discuss reports/statistics which you can then chase up and read in their entirety.

What is an online reference?
Online references are references that are only available online, be sure to check the study guide for the appropriate way to reference these (hint: make sure you list the complete URL for the webpage you retrieved the information from and the date you accessed it).#p#分页标题#e#

There is often a bit of confusion as to whether a pdf is an online document… Being a pdf doesn’t automatically mean it’s a hard copy source… you can tell whether it was published by looking within the first few pages to see if there are any publication details (ie. date, publisher, place of publication) if this info is not provided you would need to reference it as an online source (refer to the chapter on referencing in your Study Guide and Reader).

Is a journal article located online an online source or a journal article?
Generally, journal articles found online should be referenced as a journal article (refer chapter on referencing in your Study Guide and Reader).

How many online references can we use?
As per the unit guide you are required to use a range of sources. That essentially means that you shouldn’t be relying too heavily on online sources, but including a range of references from journal articles, governmental and non-governmental reports etc. There is not a minimum or maximum number of online sources, this is left up to your judgement.

Can I use the unit textbook?
Yes, the unit textbook, ‘Understanding Health: A determinants approach’ is an essential starting reference. However, remember it is also important to go beyond the course materials (textbook and readings) and include other credible sources to show you have engaged with a range of literature.

When referencing the textbook, remember to reference each individual chapter as per the guidelines in your Study Guide and Reader for Chapters in edited books.

I can’t find anything? I’m having trouble finding information for the first section
Look on the portal for links to data

“Discuss from a social, www.ukassignment.org environmental and biological determinants of health perspective”… What does this actually mean?
Based upon the information you have provided for Steps 1 and 2, you need to discuss how social, environmental and biological determinants could help explain the situation. Reading the chapters by Reidpath (Chapter 2), Nicholson and Stephenson (Chapter 3) and Swinburn and Cameron-Smith (Chapter 4) in the text will start you off, but you need to source additional references to support your points and deepen your discussion. You need to decide through your readings which of the social, environmental and biological determinants are the key influences on this health issue in Australia and discuss accordingly.

How recent is recent? Is it still appropriate to include old data?
You are not going to find out what is the most recent data until you start looking! Old data is still important to include when you are reporting trends, but we expect most of your references to be no more than 5 years old.

Should I have appendices for my assignment?
Essentially the answer to this question is NO. Appendices are not marked, but rather included for supporting evidence. If something is important enough to include in your assignment you should be including it within the body of your text. If you are just quoting one figure or statistic you include it as per any other piece of information and reference it accordingly.#p#分页标题#e#

Take this for an example... if you are quoting a figure from a journal article you would include it in the body of your assignment and reference it with the author's name and date of publication, with the full reference in the reference list. You would not include the journal article as an appendix.

How do I reference graphs/tables/pictures?
You reference them as per all other information included in your assignment... you write the author's name (or organisation like ABS if no individual author) and the year of publication and provide the complete reference in the reference list.

Do I need a bibliography?
NO - You only need a reference list. In your reference list you ONLY include references that you cited in text.

Should I just include data on diabetes among Australian adults, or should I look at other countries too?
Just keep to Australian data, you will  find that there is a plethora of information out there on diabetes, but for this assignment we have asked you to focus on ADULTS in AUSTRALIA… going beyond this will not add to your mark as it does not answer the question.

This just relates to data… you may find it useful to look at international studies when looking at diabetes among Australian adults from a social, environmental and biological determinants perspective. There are studies out there that have useful content that are applicable to Australia and therefore this assignment.

I need to use at least 8 references. How would I do this?
Your textbook and the readings provided in your Study Guide and Reader offer an excellent starting point. You might also search the library catalogue for appropriate journal articles in Health Promotion and Public Health journals. There are many other reputable sources online… have a look at some of the hints people have provided on DSO discussion threads. Remember the minimum of 8 references need to come from a range of sources… books, journals, online etc. It is essential that you read, read, read… engage with the literature and open your mind to new ways of thinking.

Then create a reference list at the end of your essay. You will need to consult the Essential Guide to Referencing chapter in your Study Guide and Reader to follow the requirements of the Harvard System. This is also an important skill to develop. Different schools and journals use different styles…being able to adapt is important.

What is an 'adult'?
This is for you to decide based on what is commonly defined as an adult in the literature (you can't just make up your own definition). You will probably find that there are plenty of slight variations, but you need to use the most common one and reference your source(s).

You may need to decide which category of adult you will focus on (i.e. young, older, aged) to prevent an overload of information. It would be worth defining this in your introduction so the marker is clear on the age range you are referring to. #p#分页标题#e#
You may even find it useful having a discussion in the Assignment 2 discussion board about the various definitions and where they are from with other students. Just make sure you provide the www.ukassignment.org full reference so other students can go and read the source themselves to make sure they get it right!
I've found some data on Australian adolescents... can I use it?
NO - Just keep to data on adults, you will find that there is a plethora of information out there on all the different life spans (age groups)... if you try and read through all of this you will never get your assignment completed. We have narrowed down the group in question in an effort to make your assignment manageable.
For this assignment we have asked you to focus on ADULTS in AUSTRALIA… going beyond this will not add to your mark as it does not answer the question.
Can my comparison/s of the data include categories not listed in the Unit Guide?
Yes - as long as they are relevant and your comparisons are based on recent, reputable data.
