Augmented reality (AR) is a new technology that "integrates" real-world information and virtual world information seamlessly, by applying virtual information to the real world to make it be perceived by human senses to achieve a sensory experience that transcends reality (Huang, Yang, Hsieh, Wang and Hung, 2018). AR can be widely applied to supply chain management and therefore increase customer satisfaction.

AR can improve order picking process. Employees can use AR to make the order picking process faster and less prone to errors. By using smart glasses, employees can accurately see where items should be placed on the shopping cart when selecting an order. In addition, these smart lenses always keep picking lists for order pickers and show them the most efficient way to go through the warehouse. This technique is commonly used in this process and is a huge improvement over the order pickers’ using hand scanners to select products and placing them on shopping carts.

AR guarantees the quality of management. Amazon, large retailers and other distributors usually have production facilities, distribution centers and warehouses throughout the countries. Many companies even have these facilities overseas. In many cases, the managers may not be on site. Nevertheless, they still need to assume the most important responsibility. Through the use of any number of AR tools, these managers can view any website in real time at any time to ensure that the process runs as planned. This is especially important when supply chain disruptions caused by natural disasters and other problems, and the key personnel are unable to reach the site.

AR can optimize transportation. AR application can simplify the time of identifying packages and determine their origin and destination. For example, an AR mobile application can determine the specific information of a package, the weight of each package, and whether it is fragile. The device can then calculate the space required to deliver the parcel and find the right place in a driver's vehicle, taking into account the planned route.
AR can improve secure delivery options. When ensuring that a package being delivered to a specific person, the current method is to verify the identity and collect the signature (Mota, Ruiz-Rube, Dodero and Arnedillo-Sánchez, 2018). Through cooperation and approval with customers, AR can make secure delivery and authentication easier. A customer's photos can be scanned and stored in the company's database. Then, on delivery, AR and facial recognition technology can be used to match the customer's face with the pictures in the database. Therefore, it is easy to ensure that the recipient is the intended recipient.
AR can improve customer experience (Quercioli, 2018). Customers can use AR technology-based APP to view items in their stores. In this way, customers can select any product in the catalogues, and then use mobile phone camera to view the products they want to buy, as well as the performance of furniture, sofas that they want to purchase in their homes. Companies can also use AR to allow customers to browse the aisles and warehouses of retail stores, so that customers can understand the current status of the companies’ management.
