Like any healthcare organisation ABC Concordia Healthcare Ltd ensures that quality services are provided to its vulnerable clients through commitment and promoting equality and diversity tackling discrimination. ACB Concordia Healthcare Ltd tries to promote healthcare services taking into account the diversity in local population ensuring the quality of services is not compromised.ABC Concordia Healthcare Ltd services are accessible to all community, clients and applicants regardless of a person’s characteristics, age, disability, gender, race, sexual orientation, marital status, employment status, political opinion and religion or belief.ABC Concordia Healthcare Ltd promotes equality and diversity within its organisation through policies, practices and procedures eliminating unlawful discrimination. They treat their clients, staffs, stakeholders and other third parties equally and fairly with same attention, courtesy and respect regardless of their characteristic. As a provider of publicly funded healthcare services it takes steps wherever possible to promote equal opportunities in relation to access to the healthcare services they provide and taking account of the diversity of the communities.
 
Internal organisation need of ABC Concordia Healthcare Ltd includes identifying client’s needs and setting out communications and appropriate plans considering steps taken earlier putting in place customer service policies and procedures to make their services accessible to clients.
 
ABC Concordia Healthcare Ltd meets the diverse needs of clients by developing policies and procedures and also provides services which are accessible to all the community. They take into account the clients who are in need with disability and also who are unable to communicate effectively in English. They also consider the groups which are predominant with their client base such as men and women; carers; children; the elderly; members of religious groups or nationalities; and lesbian, gay or transgender people.
 
Internal needs of ABC Concordia Healthcare Ltd is to providing clients quality care and services which they need and also employing qualified and experienced staff to provide customer care services to clients. They also consider that their employees and stakeholders are satisfied in the organisation and equality and diversity is practised. They also ensure that communication plan is effectively implemented and training is provided to its employees where appropriate.
 
ABC Concordia Healthcare Ltd’s external need is to ensure that when dealing with third parties (other healthcare providers) they do not unlawfully discriminate them. They ensure that when dealing with external stakeholders such as suppliers and contractors they do not discriminate them but value their ability on the basis of their experience. External needs also encourage managers to be fair and justice and not favouring any particular supplier or contractor on the grounds of their age, gender, marital status, race, religion or belief, sexual orientation or on the grounds of disability.
 
ABC Concordia Healthcare Ltd treats all employees and job applicants equally and fairly ensuring there is no unlawful discrimination against them. Every employee is given equal opportunities and treated fairly according to their ability and experience for example in terms and conditions of employment, recruitment and selection, access to training opportunities, access to promotion and transfers, grievance and disciplinary processes demotions, selection for redundancies, maternity and other leave arrangements, performance appraisals , dress code, references, bonus schemes, flexible working hours, work allocation and any other employment related activities. Employee’s terms and conditions of service comply with anti-discrimination legislation.
 
The impact of prejudice and discrimination on individuals and groups are results from common type of discrimination which is exclusion and restriction of opportunities for individuals or members of one group from another group. Individuals and groups are discriminated due to race, religion and gender which create a negative impact on an individual or a group. Prejudice and discrimination affects individuals and groups from receiving equal opportunities such as access to employment, education, housing, public services and facilities and public accommodations.
 
In regards to ABC Concordia Healthcare Ltd prejudice and discrimination on individuals will have a negative impact on them as they will feel undervalued and also may destroy employee morale not being fairly treated. It not only hurts them emotionally but it can also reflect on the organisations performance for example an unsatisfied and unhappy employee would not perform well and provide productive and quality services to its clients. Employees will feel unappreciated and unmotivated to do their best work and there will be a high turnover, absenteeism, employee conflicts, increase stress among the employer and employee. It can affect the organisations growth and productivity as well as their budget in hiring and training new staffs.
 
The same effects may be on groups who face discrimination in the organisation due to racism, gender or religious beliefs. They will be losing their self-esteem and also conflicts may arise among employees when management is biased on equal opportunities given to employees. There will be communication breakdown among the employees and between management as dissatisfied employees may stop working together as a team. Employee conflicts may arise due to jealousy and comparing each other’s ability and may lead to competition against each other to get ahead in position. An atmosphere will be created where employees don’t trust each other as well as the company leadership and in some cases if discrimination is proved employees may take legal action against the organisation.
 
In conclusion to maintain a flexible workforce ABC Concordia Healthcare Ltd should practise legal requirements, policies and procedures relating to equality and diversity to improve staff recruitment and retention, innovation and solving problem, improve creativity, marketing strategies and improve organisational performance.
 
TASK 2
 
ABC Concordia Healthcare Ltd promotes equality and diversity within its organisation with policies, practices and procedures eliminating unlawful discrimination but there are still some shortfalls.
 
There are few practices which could be implemented to improve their system and processes such as:
 
Inform employees of the discrimination legislation which is in force including provision of goods, facilities and services during recruitment and orientation
Employ more ethnic group employees who can interact with clients in their own cultural language to understand their needs more clearly and provide services effectively
Employees, stakeholders and directors should be informed about the communication plan upon calling a meeting and discussing and exchanging views and opinions upon implementing policies and procedures.
When recruiting and selecting employees advertise the available position needed in the organisation with required qualification
Equal opportunities are given to all applicants to apply but also consider applicants who can speak fluent English apart from their own cultural language to be an advantage when serving clients
A copy of the discrimination policy should be signed by the recruitment agency acting for ABC Concordia Healthcare Ltd ensuring they are fully aware of the requirements of unlawful discrimination and to act accordingly
A team meeting should be enforced in the organisation once a month to discuss and give their opinion about any issues and suggestions which can be implemented to improve the service
Staff appraisals should be done every six months and appropriate training should be assigned for staffs who need support
Employees should be reviewed annually according to appraisal results which would be fair in accordance to their ability and performance towards the organisation
Regular audit system should be in practice to identify any misconduct or discrimination of equality and diversity occurring in the organisation.
Create a more effective communication atmosphere in the organisation for all members and stakeholders to improve opportunities and increase knowledge and team work.
