本文从任命非内部候选人的新首席执行官入手,分析了继任计划不完善的情况,接着介绍了宝洁实施内部领导的一些做法,包括让董事会参与进来、明确首席执行官的角色、持续不断的演进过程、设定标准等。一个伟大的CEO应该具备多种判断,在寻找合适的CEO时,一个伟大的接班人方法是非常重要的,它可以将董事会和CEO的运作联系在一起,并在董事会和团队之间建立一种牢固的关系。

最重要的是,从我对CEO接班人的六个方面了解到,CEO接班人不是个人,而是团队和公司的未来,这将决定集团的发展。This article starts with the appointment of new CEO who is not the internal candidate and analyze the situation of poor succession plans, followed by some of the practices P&G put into practice to build internal leadership, which includes make the board get involved, make the role of CEO clear, a continuous and evolving process, set criteria, etc. There are various judgment that a great CEO should have, and in finding the right CEO, a great succession method is very important which can tie the running of board and CEO together and create a strong relationship between board and team. 
The latter part of this article gives me a new understanding of CEO succession. Even in the former part, it states various practices that P&G uses to find the right CEO, there still exists factors that will influence the succession of CEO, which is stated as it’s hard to let go. If the company is stable and is still very competitive, then it may not have the motivation to select new CEO, which may makes it miss a lot of good candidates, so there are always unexpected factors that will influence the results.
Through this article, the most important thing I learn is if you want to find the right person to be the CEO of your company, you have to set a plan for succession and create a mature system. Don’t separate the function of board and CEO, they have to work closely to make the company batter. In order to find the right CEO, you have to make clear what kind of person you want to find, whether he has the judgment you asked. So choosing the right CEO is not an easy thing.
Above all, from six things I’ve learned about CEO succession, I get the idea that CEO succession is not about individual, it is about team and the future of company, which will determine the group development.
