Description
To help you understand the context and develop ideas for the EWB Challenge project your team will need to undertake background research. This research will need to examine both technology, such
as existing ideas or products in use or research, and context, including background on India, Tamil
Nadu and the Devikulam community.
As a team you should decided upon your specific research needs. These could include:
• existing technologies used in developing communities for your teams’ selected design topic
• technologies used in other communities or countries that may be able to be used in
Devikulam
• background on India, Tamil Nadu and Devikulam in particular, including resources, number
of families, income levels, climatic conditions, major cultural traditions, education levels,
existing technologies used and infrastructure available
• identification of specific user and system requirements and needs
Your team will first need to identify your research needs as a whole. These should then be assigned
as individual research tasks to team members to complete. Research may be undertaken and
discussed in the team, but each team member will need to submit an individual research report for
assessment.
Reports will be used by your team to help with project activities including:
• background context and problem definition
• establishing target specifications
• user requirements
• concept generation and selection
For example, one or two members of the team may focus on developing a set of specific user
requirements while others identify existing technologies. The user requirements can then be used
by the other team members to evaluate ideas and concepts to make their recommendations. This is
an acceptable sharing of information, as long as it is referenced appropriately (it is acceptable to
reference the report of a team member).
Report Sections
You should submit a 6‐page individual report that includes the following elements:
1. title page with name, student number, title, practical group number, team number and
other team members (not included in page limit)
2. outline of the teams’ design topic (≈ ½ page)
3. outline of your specific research task (your research question) (≈ ½ page)
4. presentation of outcomes from your research (≈ 4 pages) including:
a. a description of the method and approach used to evaluate and analyse information
and research (if relevant)
b. detailed description, discussion, presentation and evaluation of your research
findings
c. an evaluation or discussion of sources of information for accuracy, reliability and
possible bias or inaccuracy
5. final recommendations from your research and how it will be, or was, incorporated into the
teams’ design topic and project work (≈ 1 page)
6. references (not included in page limit)
Marking Criteria
The report will be assessed according to:
• description of the design topic and research task
• types of resources and sources of information identified and utilised
• appropriateness and relevance of method used to analyse, present and evaluate information
http://www.ukassignment.org/ygcourseworkdx/2012/0314/19323.html how well resources and sources of information are evaluated and summarised
• appropriateness and justification of final recommendations
• formatting, spelling, grammar, layout, structure and readability of your report, including
appropriate referencing of information and use of figures, tables and diagrams
Assignment Submission
• you will need to submit one file containing all of your report sections online using the
assignment submission on the course Wattle site. This can be a pdf or word document.
•指导coursework  name your file according to the following naming convention:
[universityID]_[first name]_[surname]_Engn1211_assignment_B
So, if I was submitting a pdf document for the assignment the file would be called:
u921490_Jeremy_Smith_Engn1211_assignment_B.pdf
It is good professional practice to name files according to their use and assume that others
will need to look for it and identify it. Assignment_B is not an appropriate name in this case.
