Can Chinese 'miracle' be sustained in the global financial crisis?

1.0 Introduction

1.1 Motivation
Since the financial crisis in 2008, Chinese economy has still maintained a high growth rate. However, whether China's economic ‘miracle’ can be sustained in the global financial crisis has been paid a widespread attention in economic circles of the world, because China's economy as the world's second largest economic body, its rise and fall will affect the world economy largely. If China's economy in future is still able to maintain a high pace, it will be conducive to the overall recovery of the world economy, if China's economic growth rate slows, it will drag on the speed of recovery of the world economy (Felipe et al., 2013). Therefore, to analyze the development trend of China's future economy and to explore whether Chinese economy can achieve sustainable development in the future is a subject with a realistic value. Based on this, this essay is from the perspective of the political economy to explore whether Chinese economy can be sustained in the global financial crisis.

2.0 Reasons leading to Chinese 'miracle'

3.0 Argumentation on the sustainability of Chinese ‘miracle’

4.0 Discussion and recommendation

5.0 Conclusion

In the modern market economy, both market regulation and government intervention will have a significant impact on economic development, rational use of these two kinds of methods plays an important role in achieving the sustainable development of economy. Chinese economic ‘miracle’ is largely due to Chinese government’s proactive fiscal policy, monetary policy and the policy of expanding domestic demand. The author of this essay is based on the three pillar basic model of sustainability to analyze that China's economy can not achieve a sustainable development, the reason is that China's economic ‘miracle’ is mainly due to promotion of government intervention, it is a kind of economic growth based on distorted resource allocation and low efficient of making use of resources. For Chinese economy, to achieve a sustainable development, Chinese government intervention should be remained within a moderate range, the government should transform government functions to allow the market mechanism to become a dominant factor in the allocation of resources.
