I always focus on well-around development, and this essay is to show the personal development analysis on myself. I have not only had great improvement in my study but also gained abundant working experience. I am the monitor in my class last two years when I study in the Sino-British-college, and have to hold many activities, to handle the complex relationship between my classmates and to assistant our teachers teaching. It is a position that demands leading ability, shoulders much responsibility, and calls for the spirit of dedication. During summer and winter holiday, I had taken part in social practices by doing tutoring. As a tutor, I have to not only effectively teach my student the knowledge that he did not grasp well but also communicate with him about some interesting topic to close our relation, such as wonderful live match, hit singers, and well sellers. In July 2007, I worked for two months at the Deutsche Bank in Shanghai Branch (see Appendix 1). I took a temporary vacancy in Private Wealth Management which targets to the specific needs of high net-worth client, their families and selected institutions worldwide. The clients have good education and maybe proficient at investment, so special technique should be applied in the advice from our service.

From these experiences, I have improved my interpersonal skills. As a monitor, I discovered that I become more willing to plan an activity and share my ideas with others, and the ability to express my ideas has also improved. We should hold many class activities every semester, so I have to construct a plain draft in mind for each activity before the discussion in class. After the detailed scheme is formed, I have to arrange the assignment to related persons, and oversaw the execution of the whole scheme. Our class always accomplished excellently, and the wonderful performance in every activity helped me continuously elected as the excellent monitors during the annual election among all the classes in my school. The glories of being the excellent monitors bring me the passion for offering more service for my class and the confidence in planning and designing an activity. However, taking the position as a monitor in class occupies lots of my private time, so I can not spend as much time on study as other students in my class if I enjoyed the same leisure time as them(McClellan 2008). The method for me to catch up with other students should be that either I can apply an efficient learning method to save time, or I can cut my leisure time. However, I have not discovered an efficient learning approach, and always cannot help giving up the leisure time and addict to video games. As a result, my academic learning is not among the top in my class, for I lack the technique to control myself and have not find a proper learning way to promote my learning efficiency.

Being a tutor, I helped my student catch up with the top ones in his class. I taught not only the knowledge that he was not familiar with but also the methods that he should apply in study. I gave up the traditional Chinese teaching methods of teaching and accepting, and adopted the method of asking and answering which turns the boring learning to be interesting. Besides teaching, I shared my study experience and work experience with him, and he was also glad to tell me his interesting activities at school and little secrets in daily life. I properly selected the suitable examples to illustrate my viewpoint and taught in a humorous way. Therefore, we became close friends, and it is more convenient for me to discover the weakness in his study and to help him make a great progress. Moreover, his parents told me that they found he not only grain great improvement in knowledge learning but also tended to talk more often and be more confident than before. During the period of being a tutor, I reviewed the knowledge that I have learned before, and discovered that I still could not fully understand some abstract theories and the complex application of them. Therefore, when I cannot completely explain the application of certain theories, I have to ask my student to remember them as special application which is a torture to him and me. The proficient applying of certain abstract theories is based on fully understanding of them, so my skills on independently learning knowledge need to develop.#p#分页标题#e#

Working at Private Wealth Management in the Deutsche Bank for two months, I fully practiced my interpersonal skills. The main business of Private Wealth Management (PWM) is available to the specific needs of clients with high net-worth, their family members and selected institutions worldwide. PWM offers an integrated service of financial management solutions, including estate planning and suggestion on foundations and philanthropic activities. We often had personal contact with customers according to their preferences. The meeting place can be at customers’ homes, the high intimate reception room, or the high clubs where the rich often appear. In different places, we should wear in different styles, behave by different manners and speak in different ways. The strategy to make more of our customers’ wealth consists of learning more about our house view and investment themes, delegating day-to-day management and investment decisions, making their own investment decisions and using our research and execution service, service to work with independent financial advisers, family office service, and special services to meet their needs. We have to use various talking and communicating recipes to each step. Every time my manager asked me to make personal contact with our customers, I always got fine appraisement from them. There are many reasons for me to make a positive first impression on my customers. Firstly, I like smiling, looking the person in the eye, and using grace body language. Secondly, I can speak clearly and with modulation. I always carefully select words, leave time and room for the others to feel involved. Thirdly, I adept at apperceiving customers’ potential needs from their talking and appearance, and keep the conversation being appealing to my customers. From the experience at the Deutsche Bank, I think I still have to improve my personal skills in doing independent learning to accept new knowledge quickly, for quick learning can greatly save time in daily work. For example, I found that I have to spend lots of time on learning relevant business terms and each new operation mode. When we introduce our main service or investment suggestion to clients, we should use many business terms or financial index. Our clients sometimes asked us to explain the term or the financial index. If we could not clearly commentate those terms, we would be in discomfiture and the image of our company would also be affected for the unprofessional explanation. To each client, PWM offers specified operation mode. When we discovered our clients’ need or their potential need, we have to quickly select out the mode which is suitable to their needs. If we could not make the decision correctly and quickly, we would not have a positive impression on clients and in turn or even lead to bother between the client and our bank. Therefore, it is critical to grasp the business terms and operation modes. Nevertheless, I can not grasp them as soon as my colleagues.

I have learn Practice of Management skills for about 10 weeks, we have learned personal skills (such as time management, decision making, self-awareness, managing stress, solving problems creatively) and interpersonal skills (such as active listening, group working) and other skills. I think my interpersonal skills in active listening have been grasped very well #p#分页标题#e#the work experience at Private Wealth Management in the Deutsche Bank. When I faced imperious clients or tough situations, I always conducted with confidence, looking them in the eye, inviting them to sit down and possibly offering them a distraction by a cup of tea. Let them talk and did not interrupt them, neither pointing nor using body language that might be considered aggressive. Then I would speak quietly but directly and try to move them to my way of thinking. And these recipes are helpful for me to handle those difficult clients and the imperious rich who thought they were patronizing. When I met clients who were not familiar with our service or not very trust us, I would introduce the investment strategies designed for specific client by speaking clearly with modulation, selecting words with care, and leaving room for them to make valuation. At the same time, I would use some appropriate body language to show my confidence and specialty and to win clients’ trust and positive impression. Firstly, I had the ideas of these skills by reading famous CEOs’ biography and by watching my colleagues’ behaviors. Then I consciously applied them in my work. After a period of practice, I could adroitly and properly use them in my work. Therefore, I think the interpersonal skills in active listening learned from PMS Sessions is not as useful as those learned from work experience.

From the Practice of Management Skill module, I have a deep understanding on the concept and application of management skills. I discovered that my interpersonal skills in group working have greatly developed, although my interpersonal skills have been improved since I became the monitor. For instance, in last week each class is assigned to select a wonderful performance to participate the TFB (这是什么意思?)Show held by our school. Members from our class’ student union met together to discuss which performance we should choose, but divarication appeared among us. Four members insisted on playing a comedy or a drama, while the other four persisted in performing hip-hop or ballet. Therefore, their opinions can be unified for a long time. As the leader in this group, it is crucial to listen to and valued the two parties’ opinions carefully, and conveyed your point clearly by combining the reality you met and resource you had at present (Lennon 2005). After then the agreement was reached on playing a comedy which should be written by us setting in the discourteous behaviors at our campus to call for the attention of each students. Although I had formed the plan of performing a comedy before the discussion, I can not arbitrarily make the decision. I should carefully listen to and seriously consider other students’ opinions. My suggestion should be based on our discussion and change my original ideas according others’ opinion during the discussion process, so that each member would be felt that they are involve and that their suggestions are respected (McCartney 2006). In addition, the decision made by all members will be more thorough and more practicable(McClellan 2008). After unified opinion was formed, we schemed for the whole comedy at length and cooperated intimately to carry out our scheme. Finally, our class won the first, owing to our excellent performance which is closely related to reality and full of creativity. According to the theory of Multiple Intelligences developed by Psychologist Howard Gardner (1986) states “there are at least seven ways that people have of perceiving and understanding the world and each of these ways have a distinct “intelligence”----in other words, a set of allowing individuals to find and resolve genuine problems they face.” Only by the cooperation of the whole class can we won the first. In addition, my personal skills of realizing and adjusting others’ feelings and emotions have been developed from the study of the PMS module. According to American Psychological Daniel Goleman’s Emotional Intelligence----feeling adjustment refers to the adjustment to the different emotions and feelings neither deny nor suppress them(Olsen 2007). With the advent of globalization, facing the pressure from change and conflict is inevitable in the future. Leaders should understands their group members’ psychological states, and manage to assist them in overcoming the bad emotions by the appropriate use of emotional adjustment (Will 2006). When I communicate with my classmates, I try to judge their potential needs from their appearance and behaviors. Then I talk with them to evaluate whether my judgment is correct. After several times of practice, now I can quickly discover others’ potential meaning and needs from their gesture and appearance. It will be helpful for me to realize and adjust my group members’ emotions in the future management.

During the age of globalization, core technology renews and frontier information updates in a speed quicker than ever before. Therefore, in order to keep ourselves in we should continuously learn new knowledge in our limited spare time (Kevin 2008). It would be very helpful if we are capable of learning new things with high efficiency (King 2007). And it is critical for me to improve my independent learning ability at school where I can discuss it with outstanding professors and can also watch and copy other students who can effectively arrange their study. And the most obvious yardstick for me to evaluate the progress I would gain in the development of independent learning will be grade of my main courses when I assume the position of the monitor and spend as much leisure time as other students in my class.

It may be a tough procedure for me to develop my personal skills in independent learning, because from my life experience I discovered that reasons for my low learning efficiency go as follows. Firstly, I can not always carry out my study schedule for my poor self-controlling. Secondly, I am willing to pursuing new patterns and styles and reluctant to follow fixed habits, so I have not form regular learning habit. I only take notes on a few pages in my note book and seldom record complete learning logs. Thirdly, my knowledge is restricted in a narrow field. When I met a complex theory, I can not effectively link it with relevant knowledge.

To overcome those obstacles in the development of my independent learning skills, I have to grasp the recipe of adjust my own emotion and to improve my self-controlling by conscious implements. When I am in very sad emotion, I should consciously think about those happy things. When I want to play video games, I should stop thinking about the passion from enjoying them and consider the task that I have to finish in time. Then try to cultivate my patience by doing repetitive exercise everyday, so that I would not optionally give up note taking during the learning process. Moreover, borrowing others’ note taking books, finding the convenient note taking method and practicing them in my note taking process will help me form a efficient and useful habit in note taking. In addition, I should read books concerning diversified fields, so that I can open my eyeshot and form the habit of thinking via cross-subjects pattern. I would read books concerning at least two fields in a week and spend one hour online to read the latest domestic and international news in business, economy and other fields.#p#分页标题#e#

In conclusion, from the above analysis, I clearly illuminated my strengths and development needs. The ability to understand leader own characteristics and to identify group members strengths and weaknesses is a key necessity for management (Cutler 2008). Correctly delivering assignment to right person can excellently finish a complex project. The capacities to grasp latest information in shortest time and to efficiently complete projects are the admirable management recipes. Moreover, the technique to properly adjust group leaders’ self-emotion should be highlighted in cultivating the management skills. Successful management ability comes from not only books but also the study of other outstanding managers’ conduct around us and the application of those available skills in our daily operation.
