A high speed 200 dpi passive matrix bistable SGVA display panelhave been developed using BiNem display technology.

1. Introduction介绍
The bistable BiNem liquid crystal displays are particularlyattractive for ultra-low power mobile products and paper-likedisplay applications, such as e-dictionaries, e-books, e-documentsor e-newspapers. 双稳态BiNem液晶显示器是一种超低功耗dev移动产品,这种产品主要是在纸张的显示应用上,如电子辞典,电子书籍,电子报纸等。Like paper, BiNem displays require no powerto maintain an image once it has been written. In this paper, we report several improvements that underline thecompetitive advantages of BiNem technology and represent astep toward mass production and market acceptance. Theaddressing time of B/W panels has been reduced to 0.4 ms perline at ambient temperature. The manufacturing yield has beenconsiderably improved with the introduction of second generationBiNem alignment layer materials. High speed 200 dpi reflectivepassive matrix SVGA (600 x 800 pixels) BiNem display panelshave been manufactured and the BiNem manufacturing processhas already been implemented in a LCD production lineprocessing 14 x 16 inch glass plates.
2 Structure of BiNem displaysBiNem显示器的结构
The two stable textures in BiNem displays are U and T. 两个稳定的纹理数码相机的显示器是U和T。
U is 0°-twisted and T is 180°-twisted. U appears black and T white in theusual two-polarizer reflective configuration (figure 1).The switching between the U and T textures is performed in twosteps: 1) anchoring breaking phase, 2) texture selection phase. BiNem displays only differ from usual STN LCDs by a thinnercell gap and the use of BiNem alignment material instead of theusual polyimide alignment material.
3. Development of a 5.1” high speedBiNem SVGA display
A 5.1” SGVA B/W BiNem display with 200 dpi resolution hasbeen designed for integration into a BiNem Evaluation Kit (seefigure 2).
The BiNem Evaluation Kits are aimed at demonstrating theoverall performance of BiNem display modules in terms ofoptical quality, speed and ultra-low power consumption. Theyhave been manufactured on the Nemoptic line.
The excellent readability of the display is a consequence of itshigh 200 dpi resolution, good brightness and wide viewing angle,combined with the presentation of flicker-free images.Driving and control electronics optimized for simpledemonstration purposes has been included. Images can bedownloaded via a USB link, and are displayed in 240 ms atambient temperature.图片通过USB连接下载,在当前的情形下是可以达到240 ms 的速度的。
